During San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that several stars, including returning actor Zach Galligan, will be joining the Gremlins franchise for the animated HBO Max series Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai.

The full cast will include the voices of Sandra Oh, Randall Park, George Takei, Bowen Yang, and Zach Galligan. These names come alongside the already announced roster of Ming-Na Wen, James Hong, BD Wong, and Izaac Wang. Information on the characters that the newly announced cast members are playing will reportedly come at a later date.

Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is set to premiere next year on HBO Max, then come to Cartoon Network later. Tze Chun is both showrunner and an executive producer, and the series is produced by Amblin Television in association with Warner Bros. Animation.

“In Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, we travel back to 1920s Shanghai to reveal the story of how 10-year-old Sam Wing (future shop owner Mr. Wing in the 1984 movie) met the young Mogwai called Gizmo,” reads the series’ synopsis. “Along with a teenage street thief named Elle, Sam and Gizmo take a journey through the Chinese countryside, encountering, and sometimes battling, colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. On their quest to return Gizmo to his family and uncover a legendary treasure, they are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.”
