DreamWorks Animation has announced a new animated horror series, Fright Krewe, arriving on Hulu and Peacock later this year.
Created by Eli Roth (Hostel, Cabin Fever) and A Million Little Pieces author James Frey, Fright Krew centers around teenagers fighting demons in New Orleans. However, establishing a friendship may prove more difficult.
“An ancient prophecy and a Voodoo Queen put misfit teens in charge of saving New Orleans from the biggest demonic threat it’s faced in almost two centuries,” the official logline reads. “But, honestly? Saving the world might be easier than becoming friends.”
What is Involved in Fright Krewe?
Created by Roth and Frey, Fright Krewe is a 2D series consisting of 10 episodes. Roth and Frey will executive produce alongside Joana Lewis and Kristine Songco. Shane Acker and Mitchell Smith join the series as co-executive producers. The voice cast has not been announced.
Fright Krewe marks DreamWorks’ first animated horror series geared toward older children. DreamWorks is the studio behind several successful animated franchises, including Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, The Boss Baby, and Madagascar.
Roth is well-known in the horror community, crafting some of the scariest and goriest films of the 21st century. Roth’s feature films include Cabin Fever, Hostel, The Green Inferno, and Knock Knock. Currently, Roth stars as Andrew Finkelstein in HBO’s The Idol.
Frey is best known for writing A Million Little Pieces and My Friend Leonard, two books centered around drugs, alcohol, addiction, and rehabilitation. Originally billed as memoirs, many of Frey’s stories were revealed to be fabricated, calling into question the validity of the material. Frey also penned I Am Number Four under the pen name Pittacus Lore. I Am Number Four was adapted into a feature film in 2010.
