Shawn Levy is heading to space as the director of an upcoming Star Wars movie. Like most Star Wars projects in development, details are scarce. However, Levy teased how he received the exciting news from Lucasfilm and what he plans to bring to his “bucket-list” project.
“Getting that call was a great day. I was in the edit room on All the Light We Cannot See, and I look at my phone, and it’s [Lucasfilm president] Kathy Kennedy,” Levy said to Total Film magazine. “Thus began a conversation that led to her inviting me in to develop and make my Star Wars movie. I’m putting everything I have into it, because I love that world, and it is a privilege to get to join that galaxy.”
What to Expect in Shawn Levy’s Star Wars Movie?
News of Levy’s involvement with Star Wars surfaced in November 2022, with the director confirming the report on his Twitter. Though Levy’s film is in development, it has not been officially introduced or dated by Lucasfilm.
In June 2023, three new Star Wars films were announced. One film will see the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey in an adventure set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will direct from a script written by Steven Knight. James Mangold will write and direct a Dawn of the Jedi film that will explore the origins of the Jedi 25,000 years before A New Hope. Finally, Dave Filoni will write and direct a New Republic film that will serve as the ending to the Mandalorian storyline.
Before the strikes, Levy was finishing his work as a director, producer, and co-writer on Deadpool 3. Levy is set to return for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things. Levy’s next project, the television series All the Light We Cannot See, is scheduled to be released by Netflix on November 2, 2023. Levy produced and directed all four episodes.
