Disney and Pixar’s Elemental has scored blockbuster viewership numbers, pulling in 26.4 million views in its first five days of streaming availability on Disney+.
Though the film was largely lauded by critics, its early theatrical revenue failed to meet expectations, having generated only $30 million in its opening weekend. Fortunately, when the Peter Sohn-directed film made its streaming debut on Disney+, it became the most-viewed animated film premiere since Turning Red debuted in 2022.
Elemental has also proven to be a box office success, earning favorable numbers domestically and internationally despite its underwhelming opening weekend. In addition to its domestic revenue of $154 million, the movie reportedly lit up international theaters with $330 million in earnings.
Elemental Proves Fire and Water Can Mix
Set in the effervescent Element City, where four elements (fire, water, earth, and air) live together, Elemental chronicles a heartfelt romantic story about two star-crossed lovers who — in hindsight — just cannot be mixed together. Ember Lumen (voiced by Leah Lewis), a fire element, found herself befriending water element Wade Ripple (voiced by Mamoudou Athie). As their friendship evolved into something more romantic, Ember eventually began to wonder whether the person she wanted to become was similar to the person her father wanted her to be.
The logline for Elemental reads: “In a city where fire, water, land, and air residents live together, a fiery young woman and a go-with-the-flow guy discover something elemental: how much they actually have in common.”
Elemental also features the vocal talents of Ronnie Del Carmen as Bernie Lumen, Shila Ommi as Cinder Lumen, Catherine O’Hara as Brook Ripple, Wendi McLendon-Covey as Gale Cumulus, and Mason Wertheimer as Clod. Denise Ream produced the film, with Pete Docter serving as the executive producer.
