A new video for Pet Sematary: Bloodlines sees the film’s cast and crew explain the prequel’s connection to the 2019 Pet Sematary remake.
Paramount Plus posted a new Pet Sematary: Bloodlines featurette that sees co-writer and director Lindsey Anderson Beer, producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian, and several cast members discuss the upcoming horror movie prequel.
“Pet Sematary: Bloodlines is an origin story with a young Jud Crandall,” Beer explains. In the 2019 Pet Sematary remake, an older version of Jud is played by John Lithgow.
“Jud as a young man was an obvious story to tell for a prequel, especially since John Lithgow was such a beloved character in our last movie,” Vahradian said.

What is Pet Sematary: Bloodlines about?
Midway through Stephen King’s Pet Sematary novel, which was published in 1983, Jud tells Louis Creed (played by Jason Clarke in the 2019 version) a story from his youth about a boy named Timmy Baterman. Shortly after Timmy was killed during World War II, his father buried him in the pet sematary. Timmy was resurrected into a ghoulish, violent creature who proceeded to terrorize the town of Ludlow, Maine, which is what the upcoming prequel will focus on.
“It’s really quite brilliant,” David Duchovny, who plays Timmy’s father in Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, says in the featurette. “It’s a Frankenstein story, except you bring family into it.”
Along with Duchovny, Pet Sematary: Bloodlines stars Jackson White, Forrest Goodluck, Henry Thomas, Jack Mulhern, Natalie Alyn Lind, Isabella Star LaBlanc, Pam Grier, and Samantha Mathis.
“In 1969, a young Jud Crandall is set to leave his hometown of Ludlow, Maine in search of his life’s purpose,” the official synopsis reads. “Before he makes it out, however, Jud and his childhood friends encounter an ancient evil that has gripped Ludlow since its founding.”
Pet Sematary: Bloodlines is holding its premiere at Fantastic Fest on September 23 before it releases exclusively on Paramount Plus on October 6, 2023.
