Good Grades: M. Night Shyamalan Gets SAG-AFTRA Agreement to Film New Movie

M. Night Shyamalan’s new movie, Good Grades, has earned a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement to begin production this October.

According to World of Reel, Shyamalan’s Good Grades will begin filming on October 16, 2023. No other details are known about the film at this time apart from the fact that it will be shot in Canada.

While the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike ended on September 27, The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) remains on strike at this time in an effort to secure better wages, protection against artificial intelligence, and more for actors. Most Hollywood productions have temporarily suspended production because of the strike; however, SAG-AFTRA grants interim agreements to certain titles allowing them to continue filming.

Good Grades isn’t the only movie Shyamalan is working on

In February 2023, Shyamalan signed a multi-year directing and producing agreement with Warner Bros. to develop a handful of original projects for the studio. When the agreement was announced, Shyamalan’s next project was also revealed: Trap.

Plot and casting details about Trap are also scarce at this time. The movie began filming in Pennsylvania weeks before the SAG-AFTRA strike began and it currently has an August 2, 2024, release date.

“I have a new idea that I’ve started writing,” Shyamalan told NME earlier this year. “It’s out in 2024 and it’s very, very exciting. It’s a thriller. It’s very unusual and very new compared to what I’ve been trying to do [recently], but I’m feeling very excited about the story, so much so that I can’t wait to tell it to you guys.”

Shyamalan’s daughter Ishana Night Shyamalan is also working with Warner Bros. on her feature film debut, The Watchers, which stars Dakota Fanning, Georgina Campbell, and Olwen Fouéré. Produced by M. Night Shyamalan, The Watchers also received a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement to film during the strike. It is expected to release on June 7, 2024.
