Gen V Timeline: When Does It Take Place & Is It a Sequel or Prequel To The Boys?

Now that Gen V has just premiered, fans have many questions about the show, one prominent one is “When does Gen V take place in the timeline of The Boys TV universe?”. Here is everything you need to know about this sequel/prequel spin-off.

When does Gen V take place in The Boys timeline?

Gen V is clear about when it takes place in The Boys timeline between the events of season 3 and the upcoming season 4.

This is confirmed by the official X account of The Boys, which states the following:

Other clues confirm Gen V’s timeline placement between the events of The Boys season 3 and season 4. There are whispers of Queen Maeve’s apparent death after the public believes she was killed in an explosion caused by Soldier Boy, though only Starlight and a few people know that Maeve is alive.

Some commercials show Congresswoman Victoria Neuman campaigning to be a Vice President and also a brief flicker of a news segment about Homelander standing trial for brutally killing a Starlight supporter. All of this happens at the end of season 3 prior to the start of season 4.

Due to Gen V taking place after The Boys season 3, it technically makes the show the newest installment in The Boys TV franchise.

Is Gen V a prequel or a sequel to The Boys?

Gen V is neither a prequel nor a sequel to The Boys. It is a spin-off set in the same universe between the events of The Boys season 3 and The Boys season 4.

Thus, the events that take place in and around Godolkin University happen around the same time The Boys are continuing their conflict with Homelander, Victoria Neuman, and other Supes that threaten peace and stability.
