The plot revolves around the eponymous characters as they navigate marriage and their lives as spies for a mysterious agency. Mr. & Mrs. Smith’s release date could be in early 2024.
There has been at least one previous attempt to develop a reboot / spin-off to the 2005 film. In 2007, a pilot starring Martin Henderson and Jordana Brewster for a spin-off was developed at ABC, but the network ultimately decided not to go forward with the project.
In February 2021, Amazon Studios announced that a reboot was in development. Initially, Phoebe Waller-Bridge was cast as Jane Smith, but she left the project due to creative differences in September that year. It was announced in April 2022 that Maya Erskine would replace Waller-Bridge on the project. However, the issues didn’t end there. The series was originally supposed to come out in 2022, but the release was pushed back a year.
In September 2023, it was reported that the premiere date for Mr. & Mrs. Smith has been pushed further back from November 2023 tentatively to early 2024 amidst the Hollywood strikes. This date is an estimation based on the information we have at the time of this writing.
The series stars Donald Glover as John Smith and Maya Erskine as Jane Smith. The cast also includes Parker Posey, Wagner Moura, Michaela Coel, John Turturro, Paul Dano, and more.
